An aging king was really worried
about his successor .always thinking that after he die who will take his throne
as he has no son. He was the last man in the royal family and according to a
culture only a male heir could succeed the throne.
He was considering adopting a boy
who could then take his place. His criteria were clear: such as his adopted son
must have abilities to be a royal successor. So he announced a contest for all
boys in his kingdom. Everyone was invited, regardless of their origin.
Ten boys passed a first round of contest.
There was all selected on terms of intelligence, physical attributes etc. The
king said to them, "I have one last trial, and whoever finishes it will
become my adopted son and heir to my throne." He continued: "This
kingdom depends solely on agriculture. So the king has to know how to grow
plants.
Here is a seed of corn for each of outtake
it home, plant it and raise it for three weeks. At the end of three weeks, we
will see who has done the best job in growing the seed. This person will be my
heir.
The ten candidates took their seeds
and hurriedly went home. They each had a flower pot and planted the seed upon arrival.
There was tremendous excitement in the kingdom. People were anxious to know who
would take over from their aging king.
One of these ten candidate,
however, had some difficulty. With his parents, they were terribly disappointed
when after a few days of intense care, the seed did not grow.
He didn't know what was wrong with
seed. Yet he had done everything to make it grow. He had carefully selected the
soil, he had applied the right amount and type of fertilizer, he had been very
diligent in watering with the right intervals, he had even prayed for it day
and night, but still his seed was found to be sterile.
Some of his friends recommended him
to go and buy a seed at the market and plant it. "After all," they
said, "how can someone differentiate one seed of corn from another? “But
his parents, who had always taught him the value of integrity, reminded him
that if the king just wanted them to plant corn, he would have asked them to go
get their own seed.
"If you take any other seed
other than the one the king gave you it would be dishonest," said his parents.
Disillusioned, they continued: "Perhaps we are not destined for the
throne. If it is so, then let it be, do not be the one who will deceive the king
“At the end of the three weeks, all the candidates returned to the palace
proudly showing off their young corn plant.
It was obvious, the other nine boys
had had great success with their seeds. The king descended along the row where
the passionate boys are lined up and asked each of them: "Is this what
came out of the seed that you gave?”
All the boys replied in chorus:
"Yes, your majesty! “The king nodded and continued his inspection along
the line. The monarch finally arrived at the last boy. The latter was shaken by
fear, he knew that the king was going to throw him in prison for having wasted
his seed.
The king asked, "What have you
done with the seed I gave you? ""I planted it and looked after it
diligently your majesty, but alas it did not grow," said the boy in tears.
The crowd began to boo him.
But the king raised his hands and
asked for silence. He continued: "My people, here is your next king!”
The crowd, silent, amazed, was attentive.
“Why this one? They wondered. “How can he be the right choice?" "
The king took his place on his
throne with the boy by his side and continued: "I gave these boys sterile
seeds. This test was not intended to grow corn. It was a test of character,
honesty and integrity. It was the ultimate test. If a king is to have a
quality, it would be to be above dishonesty. Only this boy passed the test!
"
P.S
Never put your morality and honesty
on stake for temporary materialistic pursuit.
Have a Wonderful positive day to
you.
